Vernon Kay

Can anyone explain to me the appeal of Vernon Kay? Clearly someone likes him - even if it's only misguided TV executives - because he's everywhere. I remember the days when you knew to avoid Kay all you had to do was avoid T4. But those days are long gone. Now he's everywhere and anywhere. There is no escape.

I had until today, however, been under the impression that leaving the country would ensure freedom from The Kay. Oh no. It doesn't. He is fronting a show in... The States!

How the hell did that happen? It seems to be widely acknowledged by British stars that the US market is the hardest to break. So how on earth did he manage it?

He's fronting the US version of Hit Me Baby One More Time, an exact replica of the ITV version which was on a few weeks ago (and which apparently he also hosted.)

How can the Americans have accepted this irritating little sod? How can they not have been bothered by his hair? By his voice? By his entire persona?

Vernon Kay: your popularity remains, and will always remain, a complete mystery to me.

Vernon is a top bloke, whom I have known nearly all my life. How well have you got to know him, before slagging him off in this public forum?
